This should be a must-see for anyone visiting Japan with a rail pass. A very somber reminder of the atrocities of war. Eerie to think of all the destruction inflicted just over 70 years ago.

Really powerful. They are putting esthquake supports in to make sure the structure can stay in the same exact condition that it was in after the a-bomb detonated

Here is world heritage site. American airmen dropped Little Boy on the city of Hiroshima on August 6th 1945. August 15th the same year, Accepted the Potsdam Declaration, Japan surrendered....

1945年 (昭和20年) 8月6日8時15分、人類史上最初の原子爆弾は産業奨励館から南東160m、高度約600mのところで炸裂した。爆心地から至近距離にあり、爆風と熱線で大破し、天井から火を吹いて全焼したが、爆風が上方からほとんど垂直に働いたため奇跡的に本屋の中心部は倒壊を免れている。戦後、頂上の円蓋鉄骨の形からいつしか原爆ドーム、と呼ばれるようになった。

久しぶりの原爆ドーム訪問。ここを訪れると何とも言えない思いがこみ上げてきます。まだ訪問されたことのない方はぜひ原爆ドームを訪問して下さい。何かを感じ取り、平和について考えるきっかけになると思います。アジア系の観光客は少なく、欧米系の観光客が多いと感じました。

ユネスコ世界遺産(文化遺産)に認定。日本で唯一の負の世界遺産。1945年(昭和20年)8月6日午前8時15分、第二次世界大戦・太平洋戦争でアメリカ軍が広島市に原子爆弾"リトルボーイ"を投下。3日後に長崎県長崎市に原子爆弾"ファットマン"を投下。同年8月15日、ポツダム宣言を受諾し、日本は降伏、戦争が終結した。
